STARZ IN MOTION
Starz In Motion Dance Studio was founded in August 2005. For me it was not only the realization of a lifelong dream it was also the opportunity to provide students of all ages with high quality training in a fun and supportive atmosphere, and we are very proud to be celebrating 13 years of dance in the Ottawa Valley.
We are a recreational and competitive studio. For the serious dance students we do offer the chance to take their dancing to the next level with competitions throughout the year as well as offering A.D.A.P.T and R.A.D dance exams. We also do many highland competitions to get stamped to the next level.
As the founder of this studio, many of my proudest moments are when the students can't wait to get back to the barre and get back to performing for many different audiences. It is extremely gratifying to see the appreciation on the faces of the audience, whether it is in a retirement home or a major showcase - it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
As director and teacher I have the reward of watching the students grow each and every dance class, not only in their skill level but in their self confidence as well. These are just a few of the reasons I love my job and look forward to everyday spent in the studio. I am grateful for my love of dance and for having the opportunity to share that with all of our dancers.

COVID-19 Dance Update
I have been waiting the week that was originally scheduled as a regular break to address this situation regarding the COVID-19, to see how things would evolve, rather than sending out various emails with changing information. I have been closely monitoring the situation before making decisions impacting many of us. This virus is unsettling and changing daily life and business operations across Canada and globally. I am closely following the guidance of the Public Health Agency of Canada and respectfully hope that everyone is taking precautions.
The studio will be closed between the dates of Saturday, March 21 to Friday, April 3, 2020. Hopefully, in this time frame, some progress to contain this virus will have been reached. If for any reason, Health Canada encourages on-going closures, I will come up with a plan of action for the studio taking into consideration everyone’s health and safety.
For those who were to compete this season, the competitions have all been postponed till a later date. I will send a separate email to those implicated regarding the calendar changes.
If anyone is interested, there has been a Facebook group that has been created for the children to share short video clips of dance moves, exercises, stretches and some fun activities for them while they are missing their dance family. It’s good for us to stay connected and helping each other through this difficult time. The group is called “Starz March Break Creations!”. Parents and dancers are welcome to join and post at any time.
The recital is currently still scheduled for May 22 and 23 however this is pending that the current situation improves. If we cannot proceed in the month of May, my intention will be to reschedule early summer. Dates would need to be confirmed. As of right now, I am working on all the recital information from home and intend to email it out to all parents as soon as possible. If you are reading this on social media, please ensure that you have received this email (if you are a current dance parent). If you do not see the email, kindly check your “spam”. Please notify me if it still has not appeared. It is very important at this time that all information be sent out via email and that communication is shared among us.
Your safety is always my main concern, and I will continue to communicate as we navigate through these uneasy times.

STARZ IN MOTION DANCE CAMP
Our camp is designed for: students who love to dance or want to get a feel for different styles and disciplines in dance, and beginners who would like to try out dance for the first time and find out what it’s all about. Summer camp is offered to dancers ages 6+.
Students start dancing at 10 am, break for lunch, then continue until 3 pm. The camp will include Tap, Jazz, Stretch, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and Lyrical, Highland, Acro, and Ballet classes. Campers are able to attend any or all classes they wish to participate in. This is an excellent opportunity for dancers to learn new disciplines and find out what they enjoy the most or for experienced dancers to bite into all that they love.
The date for the summer program is in August. Exact dates to be announced
Cost of summer program: $200.00 taxes included.

As dance parent of Starz in Motion, I am highly impressed by how the Starz studio owner (Chantal Van-Hoof) and her teachers engage young people in a fun and healthy sport, encourage them to explore their own personal talent and then build social responsibility by creating opportunities to showcase their talent to help others in the community.
My daughter's four-year experience is a microcosm of the opportunity Starz in Motion provides to our youth. She has performed in recitals and competitions to hone her dance skills and create quality performances for Renfrew County. She has developed leadership by assisting a teacher, mentored a younger dancer “buddy”, and is now teaching a class for first-year dancers. Beyond her personal growth, my daughter has had opportunities to showcase dance in at least four annual community events that reflect local priorities, including Remembrance Day to honour our troops and veterans, Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research, Unity in Diversity that brings the best of our community together and town parades that excite future dancers in this healthy and fun activity.
Through each of these community outreach events, Starz in Motion portrays a family-focused, dynamic, creative, and supportive organization that hundreds of young people and families are proud to be involved with. Most importantly, in spite of the challenges of “volunteer fatigue” very small businesses have, the studio encourages our future leaders to give in every way they can using their own natural talents. Beyond fundraising thousands of dollars for research or those in need, Starz role models that everyone has something to give, regardless of their own financial means, family situation or age... and that social responsibility is a highly positive, fun and rewarding aspect of life in Canada.
Since 2005, Starz has inspired thousands of Renfrew County youth from ages 3 to adult to be active, creative, individual and generous to those around them. This history of community contribution is paying it forward for generations as our young Canadians grow up experiencing a “giving back” mindset as a core foundation of our community.
